Stainless Steel Decorative Pipe Welding

There are various problems in the welding of stainless steel decorative pipes. Today, I briefly sorted out some common problems and solutions, hoping to help everyone.


1. Surface pores


The reasons for the surface pores of stainless steel decorative pipes during welding are generally caused by the use of unsatisfactory welding materials or the cleaning of the surface of the workpiece does not meet the requirements or the angle of the electrode during operation is not correct or the construction environment does not meet the requirements.


Prevention: Use the correct welding material, clean the workpiece before welding, and choose the correct welding angle.


Remedy: Clean up defects with angle grinder or welder's chisel. If the surface shape of the weld does not meet the standard requirements after the defect is eliminated, repair welding must be performed again. When repairing welding, the position of arc ignition and arc extinguishing must be considered; after repairing welding is completed, the weld should be re-polished to make the transition smooth.


2. The reason why the weld is not filled


The reason for the unfilled weld is generally due to the weak sense of responsibility of the welder or the improper form of the workpiece groove.


Prevention: Choose a suitable workpiece groove.


Remedy: Repair welding must be carried out again. Necessary cleaning should be carried out before repair welding, and the position of arc ignition and arc extinguishing must be considered during repair welding; after repair welding is completed, the weld should be re-polished to make the transition smooth.


3. Reasons for undercutting


The cause of the undercut defect is the improper operation of the welder or the excessive current, or the improper angle coverage of the electrode and the welding torch during welding, so that the molten base metal is not filled with the weld metal.


Precautionary measures, correctly select the current, electrode (gun) angle and welding speed, and appropriately extend the residence time on both sides of the weld.


Remedial measures: Use an angle grinder or a file to file and grind the undercut defects. For minor undercuts, if the defects are removed and the smooth transition and standard requirements are met, it will be regarded as qualified. For deep undercuts, repair welding should be carried out after grinding.
